VICTORY LOOKOUT AND OBSERVATORY Bird lovers the world over already know of the phenomenal avian life in Costa Rica, but our observatory is not only for the keen ornithologists, but also serves as an introduction to the splendid show of colour and voice of our avifauna.
There are some 400 species of birds at Highland Heritage C.R., from the tiniest hummingbirds of just a few grams to the huge crested Guan some 3-feet (90-cm) long, brilliant red Tanagers, electric-blue Dacnis, Emerald Toucanets, flocks of bright yellow and green Sulphur-winged Parakeets, Fiery-billed Aracnis, and, of course, the Resplendent Quetzal - thought by many to be the most beautiful bird in the world. Not only are the colours splendid and often spectacular, but the songs at daybreak are an inspiration and delight to us all.
Other than the observatory there are many natural and improved trails that can be followed in the forest where birds can be viewed and heard. Click on any of the pictures below to see a larger view (then click your browser's Back button to return to this page) |
